The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Russell T. Davies is writing a US-version of Torchwood for Fox. It’s just a pilot for now but the old Dr. Who production team are all on board including Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, both of whom are now in Los Angeles. No word yet if John “I’m going to do an episode of The Cabonauts” Barrowman will be involved.
I love Torchwood, it’s an awesome show. I would love to see it kept intact with the original cast. But then, you know how it goes, it’ll be Americanized. Don’t you love how we filch all your (as in British) shows? I don’t think the public realizes just how many of ‘our’ shows really started in the UK or abroad 1st. Especially all the reality shows!
Personally, I think it’s because US TV execs are a little fearful for their jobs (and, after all, who isn’t?) so they are taking less chances on a proven vehicle from overseas than commissioning something original.
Biggest mistake ever RTD. You should take a lesson from the book of Joss Whedon and avoid Fox. There is no controlling them. They have taken almost all of the genre shows they have aired and made the creators rewrite them and show the episodes in the wrong order and then move them to time slots where they can’t be found by their audience. Fox is the kiss of death for any show of quality.
I saw that Davies left Dr.Who when David Tennant left, so it’s not like he’s too busy on that . New Dr., new writers.
…. but they will likely sanitize it so it would not offend absolutely anyone (so Jack’s sexuality will likely be reassigned), hack it up to add commercial slots and just generally screw with it and make it a second rate immitaion of the original. I hope I’m wrong….. (I think they’re looking to regain the old x-files audience back)
Russel T Davis hear me or pay the price. Torchwood is a British show, a spin off of Doctor Who which you brought back in 2005. Remember the origins of Torchwood in Doctor Who - IT IS NOT AMERICAN!!!!
The British fan base are looking for Series Four of Torchwood here in the UK, concentrate on that not a bloody Torchwood pilot for Fox. Screw Fox because they kill shows like Firefly!!! Hear that? They kill anything and everything that is and could be great!!!! You have a choice, don’t do this. Don’t make this mistake. Keep Torchwood British!!!!
it would be interesting to see what fox would do with it but i have to agree with Alex Harman.We are dying to see Torchwood series 4,even more so after how series 3 ended.Or was this the plan all along?Kill off some main characters,destroy the torchwood hub and leave the remaining characters in limbo?I really hope the next series of Torchwood is British.On BBC.Sometime this year.I have a horrible feeling though that we may have seen the end of Torchwood on BBC.
